When people think of hybrid cars, they usually think of the Toyota Prius. The Toyota Prius, introduced in 1998 in North America, launched the electric car segment and is still one of the best-selling hybrid models today. One of the most interesting versions of the Prius family is the Prius Prime, which features a plug-in hybrid engine that can travel several kilometres without using a single drop of gasoline.
The 2021 Toyota Prius Prime receives several upgrades while retaining all of the elements that boosted it to success.
“The 2021 Toyota Prius Prime combines exceptional electrified performance and an impressive technological arsenal,” said Cyril Dimitris, Vice President of Toyota Canada Inc. “The Prius Prime is Toyota's most advanced passenger car. Offering optimal driving pleasure and a total range of up to 1,035 kilometres, it will be the ideal companion for your next long-haul trip. It offers everything you expect from a modern vehicle today, while being ready for the world of tomorrow."
The 2021 Toyota Prius Prime features a 1.8-litre Atkinson-cycle inline four-cylinder engine paired with an electric drive and high-capacity lithium-ion battery. This battery is much more powerful than what you would find in the "normal" Prius and it offers 40 kilometres of range. This means that you will be able to cover the majority of your daily trips without consuming a single drop of fuel!
The Toyota Prius Prime also comes with several driving modes that allow the contribution of the hybrid powertrain to be modulated.
Available starting at $33,150, the new Toyota Prius Prime comes standard with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functions, a Smart Key system with push-button start, a 7-inch central display and a 120-volt power outlet. You are also entitled to Toyota Safety Sense driver assistance technologies.
